Moab AP&P Is Not Custody
The UDC Adult Probation and Parole page lists Region 6's Moab office for Grand and San Juan Counties. AP&P supervises people in the community. It does not book detainees, operate a detention facility, set a prison release date, or maintain the Grand County Jail release sheet. The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole decides parole from a state sentence; a district court places an adult on felony probation.
A parolee has left prison confinement but remains within the state sentence and AP&P supervision. A probationer may have served a county-jail term or may have avoided prison under the court's sentence. Neither label alone proves the date or reason a person left Grand County Jail. The local jail record and court docket establish that event, while UDC status identifies present state supervision.

Verify Moab Post-Release Status
The UDC Offender Search is the first public check. It covers people who are now incarcerated by UDC or now on parole or probation. Search by UDC offender number when possible, or by first and last name. Compare date of birth, middle name, committing court, and case information before assigning a match.
Read “legal status” instead of treating any hit as prison custody. A result may identify a parolee or probationer who lives in the community. Placement and location fields must also be read in context. The search excludes ordinary unsentenced county detainees, and a fully terminated former supervisee may disappear because the tool is limited to current UDC supervision.
- Collect the person's full legal name, UDC number, and Grand County court case when known.
- Search the UDC number first and compare identity fields.
- Read legal status, placement, and any parole, termination, or expiration label separately.
- For parole, search the Board's public decision history and read the order.
- For probation, check the sentencing court docket for the order and later termination entry.
- Contact Region 6 Moab for the correct public channel when status remains unclear.

The office sits in the same Center Street government area as other Grand County functions, but the records are not pooled. AP&P owns supervision information. The Sheriff owns booking and release records. Courts own judgments and probation orders. The Board owns parole decisions. Give the right identifier to the right custodian.

Moab Parole Decision Records
For parole, use the Board Search Hearings and Decisions tool. It accepts first and last name, offender number, or date range. A single-person result can show upcoming hearings and previous decisions. The order may grant parole, set a rehearing, defer review, or change a prior action. A future release date can still be rescinded before physical release.
Save the Board decision, then compare it with UDC legal status. The order shows what the Board decided. UDC shows whether the person remains in prison, has moved into parole status, or later reached termination or expiration. The Region 6 office can help route a current-status question, but the public decision and agency record are the durable evidence.

Moab Probation Record Trail
Probation follows a court order. For a Grand County felony case, search the correct district court docket by case number when possible. The docket can record the plea or conviction, sentence, jail credit, probation terms at a high level, later modification, and termination. It explains the judicial status, though it may not record the exact moment the jail opened the door.
Grand County PreTrial Services is different. It can supervise a person conditionally released while the criminal case is still pending. That role does not turn pretrial release into probation and does not make the person a parolee. Over time, one case may involve pretrial supervision, a judgment, a jail sentence, and probation. Keep each dated event distinct.

If the UDC search shows probation but the docket shows an old case, check for a later termination entry before drawing a conclusion. A current-only public system and a historical court file can reflect different dates.
Grand County Supervision Limits
No separate public Grand County AP&P absconder list was found. UDC explains that AP&P agents and fugitive teams pursue warrants with local, state, and federal partners, but rumor or a stale third-party page cannot establish that status. Check the court docket, UDC record, Board decision, and proper warrant channel.
A parole violation may return a person to custody and trigger a Board hearing. That is not a new initial release. The Board describes parole-violation, evidentiary, rescission, redetermination, paper-review, and special-attention processes. Exact terms matter because each procedure answers a different question about custody and future release.
Supervision ends through the controlling legal process, not when a name merely disappears from a search. Utah Code §77-27-12 addresses parole discharge and sentence termination. For a former parolee no longer shown in UDC's current-only results, obtain the Board order or a UDC termination or expiration record. For probation, use the court's termination entry and any corresponding UDC record.
Note: A missing UDC result can reflect full termination, spelling, lag, or search limits, so absence alone is not discharge proof.
Moab Release and Discharge Records
Release from prison starts parole; it does not end the sentence. Utah Code §77-27-12 is titled “Parole discharge, Sentence termination” and helps mark the later endpoint, together with §76-3-202. A former parolee may stop appearing in the current UDC search after that point. The durable proof is the Board order or UDC termination or expiration record.
For a probationer, the controlling court docket should show the sentence and later termination. Utah XChange can provide public district and justice court case information under its access rules, while MyCase serves qualifying parties to their own cases. Search by case number when possible. A name-only match can join different people, and a sealed or expunged case may no longer appear in the public system.
Records from the Moab office should be requested through the route AP&P identifies. Include the UDC number, full legal name, court case, and the precise status or date that needs confirmation. Staff may restrict details, but they can identify the public channel or custodian. A request for “all records” is less useful than one for current legal status, the supervision start, and the termination or expiration document.
Utah VINE can alert on a custody change, but it does not replace AP&P, UDC, or Board proof. Technical delays and missing alerts are possible. For verified Board status, the Board publishes 801-261-6464.
Property and transition questions belong with the agency that created the record. Utah law addresses UDC transition planning and inmate property, while Grand County publishes no local release-property procedure. A person leaving state prison should use UDC's release plan and case manager. Someone leaving Grand County Jail should call that jail. The Moab AP&P office can route a supervision question, but it is not the property counter or the source of a county release correction.
